So people ask me all of the time what the number one thing they can do to get started on the path to green.  My answer is always the same.  I tell people to buy and use a stainless steel, BPA free reusable water bottle.  We are simultaneously, filling our landfills and waterways with plastic water bottles, using petroleum in the processing and then ingesting the chemicals involved in the processing of the single use water bottles.  I am so pleased to finally have the most perfect, stainless steel bottles to offer.  These bottles have an awesome filter included so you can always have filtered water!

The stats on plastic water bottles might surprise you.  For example, did you know that in each of the top 10 brands of bottled water, there are approximately 8 contaminants?  The one thing that really sticks out in my mind is that, out of the 9 billion gallons of bottled water consumed in the US in a year, only 1 in 5 of the “plastic” water bottles actually make it into the recycling bin.  The rest end up in our landfills and in our our waterways (taking forever to biodegrade) .  Think about it, what do you do with your empty water bottle when you are out and about.  You should certainly not wash and re-use those bottles as they are not proven to be safe for use after washing and heating.

According to oregonlive.com, Renee Hackenmiller-Paradis at The Oregon Environmental Council said there are two big reasons people shouldn't reuse single-use plastic water bottles. The main one is that bacteria can easily contaminate the bottles since they're hard to thoroughly clean with all the ridges and indentations, and they can't be put in the dishwasher. The other big issue is that they're made from polyethylene terephthalate, and over time that can degrade and leach phthalates into the water.

Like Bisphenol A (or BPA), phthalates are endocrine disruptors, and studies have linked them to various health problems in humans and aquatic life.

Here's the kicker, 25% of bottled water comes from the tap and some estimates are closer to 40%.  So what the heck are we doing to ourselves and our planet?  The New Millenium way to quench your thirst for eco is to go green with your Water Geek Filtered Stainless Bottle!

You will want to check out our Water Geeks - Filtered Stainless Bottle with Advanced Filter if you spend a lot of time outside camping, hiking or biking and could use a filter for possible groundwater contamination.

Hi Chris, it is not as light as a plastic bottle and it is very durable as it is made out of food grade stainless steel. Still, if you drop it from a high distance, it will dent. Although, the bottles that are sold at the local market are not usually food grade stainless so they are not as durable as these.

Definitely concerned. 2 questions about this bottle: 1. Is it as light as a plastic bottle? 2. Is it durable? In the past, my stainless steel bottles have dented along the edge of the base, so they don't stand up any more.
